Whether you are purchasing a stone for a deceased loved one or purchasing for yourself it can be difficult to know where to begin. We have outlined a few points that can help get you started on this process.

What information should you bring when you are ready to start picking out a memorial? Having everything ready can make the process of purchasing a memorial much smoother. If you don’t have all the answers we can help you figure out where to start.

  • We will need to know the cemetery in which your memorial will be placed, as each cemetery has its own regulations regarding stone styles and design requirements.

  • Knowing if your memorial will be on a single or double lot determines the size of stone you can have.

  • The name the of the cemetery plot is not always the same as the name on the stone. If the plot was purchased by a family member the plot may be under their name.

  • Matching the stone of a family member is not uncommon. It is helpful in this case to bring a picture of the stone that you like so we can match, or closely match the design. Telling us whether you are matching a stone or simply drawing inspiration from it is very important if you choose to do this.

  • Deciding whether the stone will be for one or more people is important for what size of stone you will need and what other information you can fit.

  • The VA offers military members options based on their service. We will drill holes and install a bronze marker free of charge. For stones already in the cemetery, we offer hole drilling at a reduced cost. If you select a VA-provided stone, we can assist with its cemetery placement.

  • Names, dates, and correct spelling are essential starting points for the memorial inscription. You may also choose to include designs, verses, and the names of children and grandchildren to further personalize the memorial and reflect the individual being honored.

  • A headstone is a stone set at the head of a grave. This could refer to many different styles of memorials.

  • A method of transferring a design onto the stone using sandblasting.

  • A design technique that is most effectively used on Jet Black Granite, offering greater detail and intricacy.

  • The foundation is a slab of granite or concrete that your stone is set on. The foundation is set level with the ground. You can have holes drilled for poles, shepherd hooks, and military flags.

  • A pre-need stone is purchased, engraved, and set before any person who’s name is on the stone has passed away.

There are a variety of methods to clean a stone. We have listed a few methods here.

How long will it take?

How long it takes to get your stone into the cemetery depends heavily on when you order it. Installation is seasonal, typically it takes 3-4 month during installation season (spring-fall). Custom shaped stones may require additional time.

Is future D.O.D. included?

No, we are unable to include a future date of death in our price.
